Mat Track vs
Momence
The Momence alternative built for combat sports.
Momence prices its software low and earns on your payments: free or $60 a month, then up to 5% of card volume unless you buy the top tier. It even does belts. Mat Track flips the model: pay for the plan or nothing at all, and keep every cent of your payments minus your processor's standard rate.
Every figure on this page checked against Momence's public pricing, August 2026.
The fair version first
What Momence is, honestly
Momence is modern, fast-moving software popular with boutique studios, and it undercuts almost everyone on subscription price: a free Basic tier, Pro at $60 a month, Custom at $199. It has a real member app, and, unusually for a generalist, native belt tracking with automatic promotions and rank history members can see in the app. The catch sits in the payments column: Basic takes 5% of your card volume plus 4% charged to your clients, Pro takes 2.5%, and only the $199 Custom tier drops platform fees to zero.
Price the fee, not the plan. A gym collecting $8,000 a month on Pro pays $60 plus 2.5%, $200, so $260 a month, more than Mat Track's Pro plan, and on Basic the combined platform take approaches 9% of every card payment. Momence's model suits low-volume studios; a membership gym's revenue makes it expensive. Mat Track charges the plan price and nothing else: standard Stripe or GoCardless rates, no platform percentage on any tier, free below 200 contacts.
Our data
What 5,191 gym websites told us about Momence
Our August 2026 crawl of 5,191 martial arts gym websites found Momence on 0.7% of the 1,146 sites with identifiable booking software. Its natural market is boutique and class-pack studios, where payment volumes are lower and percentage fees sting less. The martial arts gyms that try it tend to discover the fee arithmetic at exactly the moment their membership revenue grows.
Share of the 1,146 sites with identifiable booking software, not of all gyms. The crawler reads public website signals only, so platforms that leave no public footprint on a gym's own site are not measured.

The maths
The worked example: an $8,000-a-month gym on each platform
On Momence Pro the subscription is $60 and the platform takes 2.5% of the $8,000, another $200, so $260 a month, $3,120 a year, before Stripe-level processing costs underneath. Escaping the percentage means the $199 Custom tier, $2,388 a year. Mat Track Growth runs the same gym at $99 a month, $1,188 a year, with no percentage at any volume. The cheaper the subscription looks, the more carefully the payments line deserves reading.
The subscription is the whole price
Momence's low headline works because the platform participates in your revenue: up to 5% on Basic, 2.5% on Pro, plus fees charged to your clients. Mat Track earns from the plan and only the plan: connect Stripe or GoCardless, pay their standard published rates, and every percentage point of your membership growth stays yours, on the free plan included.
Belt tracking: credit where it is due, and the next step
Momence's rank system is real: hierarchical levels, automatic promotions on criteria, eligibility notifications, rank history in the member app. It is the best martial arts feature any generalist on these pages offers. Mat Track's version adds the multi-art case, one member on two ladders at once, grading criteria spelled out in the app, and ranks woven into streaks, badges and the community rather than standing alone.
Retention built in, not bolted on
Momence gives you marketing tools; deciding who is drifting is your job. Mat Track watches every member against their own 60-day attendance pattern, flags drops ranked by consequence, and sends comeback challenges with a target attached. For a membership gym, catching the fade in week two instead of at cancellation is the feature that pays the subscription. Our retention guide has the numbers.

Who moves
The gyms that switch from Momence
The gym whose revenue outgrew the fee
2.5% of a growing membership is a rising bill that never caps. Gyms do the multiplication around $6,000 a month of volume and switch to a flat plan with no percentage.
The academy that liked Momence's belts
Momence proves a modern platform can do ranks properly. Academies wanting the same idea taken further, multi-art ladders, criteria in the app, ranks tied to streaks and badges, find that in Mat Track.
The club under 200 contacts
Momence's free tier costs 5% of card volume plus 4% from your clients. Mat Track's free plan costs nothing and takes nothing, which for a small club is the entire comparison.
The part nobody else has
Practitioners in your area may already be on Mat Track
Mat Track is not just gym software; it is the app martial artists use to log their training, keep streaks and find somewhere to train on the 11,000-gym directory. That is a pool of active practitioners no other platform on this page can show you. Claim your gym's page and your timetable, trial offer and grading culture are in front of the people already searching your postcode.
Switching
What moving from Momence looks like
- Export customers, memberships and payment records from Momence (CSV exports; support can provide a full export).
- Import into Mat Track, recreate your rank levels as ladders, invite members to the app; payment consent is collected in the invite flow.
- Run both for one billing cycle, compare the payments line on both statements, then close the Momence account.
The honest bit
When Momence is the better pick
Pick Momence if your revenue is mostly class packs and drop-ins at modest volume, where percentage fees stay small and its low subscription shines, or if you want its breadth of boutique features and genuinely good rank tracking in one modern package. At the right revenue shape it is excellent value.
